Masterful Ninja

Un Rules Query

New 25 Oct 2020 Asked by namagem1 21 Comments

I have an Un Rules question - if you have a masterful ninja simultaneously on the battlefield and mutate a creature onto it, can you continue to mutate it onto itself? What happens at the end of the turn?

The mutate card isn’t in your hand. It’s just on the battlefield, much like an aura you enchanted Masterful Ninja with. Thus, you can’t cast it again.

Mutating Masterful Ninja's Mechanism

New 13 Apr 2020 Asked by pureferret 33 Comments

How does mutating onto masterful ninja work? Can I mutate if it's in my hand?

Here’s how it works. You reveal Masterful Ninja so that it’s both in your hand and on the battlefield. You then mutate it. The mutated Ninja is now both in your hand and on the battlefield. At end of turn, the creature stops being on the battlefield and is only in your hand. Once that happens, the mutate card stops mutating and turns into a card in your hand.

Masterful Ninja's Trigger Effects

New 09 Mar 2020 Asked by fearthemongoose-blog 16 Comments

Was Masterful Ninja also changed to trigger enter the battlefield effects? It has the same wording as Yet Another Aether Vortex.

Masterful Ninja only puts itself on the battlefield and doesn’t naturally have an ETB effect.

Masterful Ninja's Fate

Un-Rules: let’s say I have a Masterful Ninja that is both in my hand and on the field. An opponent forces me to discard my hand; what happens to the Masterful Ninja?

It goes to the graveyard leaving your hand and the battlefield.

Eldrazi Existence Analogy

New 05 Apr 2019 Asked by haru-n-harkel 70 Comments

As an example (Because it gets asked a lot I notice) How the eldrazi work is similar to how Masterful Ninja from Unstable exists on both the battlefield AND in your hand. The Eldrazi just do that for planes and the blind eternities, right?

That’s fine as Magic analogy goes. : )

Masterful Ninja Mechanics

Greetings, Mark! I have an UNCONSTRUCTED question only you can answer: I reveal a Masterful Ninja from my Hand and attack with it. My opponent declares no blocks. Can I now return the Masterful Ninja to my hand to pay a Ninjutsu cost, say from Ninja of the Deep Hours? If yes, will the Masterful Ninja still be attacking?

You can bounce Masterful Ninja as a cost but as it’s already in your hand it won’t leave the battlefield. It will remove it from combat though.

Masterful Ninja Behavior

What happens of Masterful Ninja is on the battlefield, but the card is shuffled from my hand into my library? Does he remain the battlefield?

If the card leaned your hand it also leaves the battlefield.

Masterful Ninja Interaction

New 19 Dec 2017 Asked by onshuu1-2 22 Comments

I have an Unquestion that must be solved! Please mark this very 'common' interaction needs to be known. Through some shenanigans I've managed to get a masterful ninja to be on the battlefield and in my hand while being a host and having Augment(this is possible, weird but possible). When happens when I attempt to augment itself?

It’s one card, albeit in two zones, it can’t Augment itself.

Phoebe and Masterful Ninja

New 13 Dec 2017 Asked by theseamus-blog1 23 Comments

You have a Phoebe, head of S.N.E.A.K. on the battlefield, and a Masterful ninja who's activated ability has put him both on the battlefield and in your hand at the same time. You activate Phoebe's ability to take Masterful Ninja's text box, what happens to the Masterful Ninja? Does he stay both in your hand and on the battlefield without a text box?

He stays on the battlefield until end of turn as it was a durational effect.

Masterful Ninja Behavior

Does Masterful Ninja stay on the battlefield after it's been revealed or can I stop revealing it and have it just be in my hand?

When you reveal Masterful Ninja, it stays on the battlefield, while also staying in your hand, until the end of the turn.

Masterful Ninja Control

New 10 Dec 2017 Asked by tabatkins 25 Comments

Un-rules question. If my opponent uses X's ability to cast the Masterful Ninja in my hand, and in response I reveal the Ninja to put it on the battlefield as well, what happens when the cast resolves? We ruled at the table that the Ninja is on the battlefield under both our control (until end of turn, when I lose control of it).

The Ninja would get cast as it’s still in your hand and the owner of X would now control it. It would no longer be in your hand and just be on the battlefield under their control.

Masterful Ninja Unsummon

New 09 Dec 2017 Asked by robotface 14 Comments

What happens if Masterful Ninja gets Unsummoned? It's already in your hand, so can it return there?

Unsummoning doesn’t do anything. It’s already in your hand.

I wouldn’t call it a hat.

Un-FAQ Inconsistency

New 23 Nov 2017 Asked by subbak 25 Comments

I think there is an inconsistency in your Un-FAQ. If I Unsummon a Masterful Ninja that's both in hand and battlefield it doesn't do anything but if I Murder a creature both in graveyard and battlefield thanks to Over My Dead Bodies it removes it from combat? Why???

The creature isn’t in both zones with Over My Dead Bodies. It gets treated as if it’s on the battlefield while attacking or blocking (meaning that certain effects can interact with it), but that’s different than Masterful Ninja which coexists in both zones.

Black Color Appeal

New 21 Nov 2017 Asked by joodoodojo-blog 29 Comments

Hey Mark! I am no fan of playing Black - I actively avoid it in drafts. But I’ve gotta say, between Phoebe, Head of S.N.E.A.K., X, and in particular Masterful Ninja...I’m actually looking forward to playing Black this time around! I love everything I’ve seen with Unstable, thank you so much for working on behalf of all of us to get this made!

I’m happy you’re happy. : )
