Booster Tutor Rule Query

New 04 Oct 2020 Asked by thasgar 33 Comments

Ok, here goes for an un-mander question: are Booster Tutor and Summon the Pack subject to Rule 11? "Abilities which bring other card(s) you own from outside the game into the game (such as Living Wish; Spawnsire of Ulamog; Karn, the Great Creator) do not function in Commander." Do cards from boosters count as "outside the game?" Because they sure aren't in your sideboard.

You’re already breaking a rule to play silver border cards, so if you’re allowed to have it in your deck, you’re allowed to get the booster.

Abyssal Persecutor Rules

So if I'm in a subgame with an abyssal persecutor out in the main game preventing me from winning and living wish for the persecutor do i immediately win the game or does the subgame have to end first?

The sub game has to end first I believe. When Un-rules starting messing with actual black border rules, answering these questions get harder.

ARFTFGF Zone Rules

New 07 Jun 2013 Asked by 31cots-blog 6 Comments

If you put a card in the absolutely-removed-from-the-freaking-game-forever zone, is it then eligible to be wished back in? The ruling on Living Wish is "You can't acquire exiled cards because those cards are still in one of the game's zones." - but the ARFTFGF zone isn't listed in 400.1 ...

The absolutely-removed-from-the freaking-game zone is unqiue to silver-bordered Magic. Here’s the ruling:  Can I ever get a card back from the absolutely-removed-from-the-game zone during the game it was put there? No! It’s absolutely removed from the game. Unlike “remove from game”, this game effect means what it says.

AWOL Creature Retrieval

New 15 May 2013 Asked by adamjford 6 Comments

If a player has his creature hit with an AWOL, can he get the creature back with a Living Wish? Or is the the absolutely-removed-from-the-freaking-game-forever zone now "in the game" like the exile zone? Or is it so far outside of the game that not even a Wish can reach that far?

Is the name of the zone not blunt enough? It is absolutely removed from the freaking game forever. Note that forever means “just this game”. So no, you can’t get it back with Living Wish.

Booster Tutor Interaction

New 29 Jul 2012 Asked by rebmcr 2 Comments

If, in an Unhinged draft, I use Booster Tutor to get a Living Wish from a Judgement pack, can Richard Garfield, PhD now name any card I own?

You can now name any card that Living Wish could legally get in the format you are playing. Often in tournaments, wishes are restricted to sideboards. But if you’re tournament allows you to get a card from your collection, Living Wish would now allow Richard Garfield access to any printed creature or land (as Living Wish can only get creatures and lands).

Silver-Bordered Rules

New 19 Sep 2011 Asked by interrogatingmaro-blog 2 Comments

As the silver-bordered rules manager, what is your opinion on using Living Wish (from Judgment) to get cards absolutely-removed-from-the-freaking-game-forever with AWOL? Am I right in thinking that since the cards are in a zone (the ARFTFGF zone), they're still in the game and thus can't be chosen?

Wishes cannot get cards from the absolutely-removed-from-the-freaking-game-forever zone. I hope the reasons are self-explanatory.
