Invocation Selection Timing

New 20 Jul 2017 Asked by deg99 36 Comments

Is there a specific reason that the god spells (Kefnet's Last Word, Bontu's Last Reckoning, Hazorett's Undying Fury) of Hour of devastation were not made into invocations?

My guess was timing. I think the cards were selected before they had been finalized. Remember we chose all the cards for the whole block at once to properly figure out which one should go where.

Flavor Text Challenge

New 07 Jun 2015 Asked by tima121 52 Comments

Lhurgoyf has 3 card names in its flavor test (Ach! Hans, Run , Saffi Eriksdotter and Last Word). I issue a challenge to all question marks to find the most card names in flavor text in magic. GO!

Sounds like a challenge if anyone is up to it.

Abilities and Colors

In your podcast you mentioned there's always a little bleed. Would you consider the "cannot be countered" ability from Blue on Supreme Verdict to be part of that?

Blue is tertiary in “can’t be countered”. Supreme Verdict was not the first time it was used. I believe it was first used on Last Word from Darksteel.

Codename Strategy Depth

New 26 Aug 2014 Asked by cheetah7071 20 Comments

How deep is the vein of "fakeout" codenames, like you did with Lorwyn/Shadowmoor and the upcoming blocks? Could you have done it as many times as needed, or are you lucky you only have to do it three times?

The key is having a two word thing that ties into the last word of a three word thing. There are more than you think.

Unstoppable Counter

Would you ever make a counter spell to counter spells which can't be countered?

We would as we already have. See Last Word from Darksteel.

Proper Naming Forms

Is it "Voices of Resurgence" or "Voice of Resurgences"?

We put the plural at the end of the last word.

Split Card Pluralization

New 19 May 2013 Asked by adamrinsky 10 Comments

How do you pluralize the name of a split card? Far and Aways? Fars and Away? Fars and Aways?

I believe technically you always pluralize the last word even though it sometimes sounds weird: Far and Aways.

Level Up Reception

Was Level Up well received?

It was received in the middle, neither beloved or behated. (I made that last word up because I think it should exist. I’m a rogue word maker.)

More Chaos Warps Please

New 23 Jul 2012 Asked by polendino 3 Comments

Can you ask the people making the Commander products to make AS MANY CARDS LIKE CHAOS WARP AS POSSIBLE!? It's quite possibly the reddest card ever. "I want this GONE, I'm not going to think about what might happen". You asked us what you should do to make Red better in EDH. My answer is; 'stop saying Chaos Warp is a bastard child of a card. It's the Reddest thing WotC has ever printed. It's what the colour needs. Print more Chaos Warps.' I don't want the other asker to have the last word.

Red is not supposed to have cards that make it that easy to answer anything. The card is a lot like Swords to Plowshares in that it has a negative that feels in color but is so insignificant versus the effect that it allows the color to just eradicate whatever they need to easily.
