Icing Manipulator

Rosie and Icing Ruling

Mark, I have a question for the Acorn Rules Manager. This weekend I was judging The MagicCon: Chicago Cube event and had multiple players draft Rosie Cotton and Icing Manipulator. We ruled that putting a +1/+1 counter on a creature was not the same as creating a token, even if that +1/+1 counter happens to be a food token. What is the official ruling on this interaction?

The token becoming a Food doesn’t happen until its on the creature, so your ruling was correct.

Un-rules Question

Hi Mark, i have an Un-rules questionIf i have Icing Manipulator on the battlefield, will putting a +1/+1 counter on a permanent count as creating a token for effects that care about that, such as Rosie Cotton of South Lane?

No. The static effect doesn’t turn it into a Food until it’s on the creature which misses the window for the trigger.

Icing Manipulator Query

why is Icing Manipulator from Unfinity not legal in commander? Doesn't it just make you pay 2 mana and remove a +1/+1 counter from a creature to gain 3 life? Really wanted to play this in my Kodama of the West Tree EDH deck.

The rules don’t allow a counter to also be a token.
