Pronunciation question going back a ways: the en-Kor. Is it pronounced like the word “encore” or does it rhyme with “Ten core”?

It rhymes with “ten core”.

Guild Mechanics Return?

New 06 Sep 2012 Asked by themostterrable 5 Comments

Out of the Return to Ravnica guild mechanics (and Gatecrash mechanics, even though you can't talk about what they are yet), how many do you think have enough design space that they could make an encore return in a future set as one of the primary mechanics?

We specifically chose guild mechanics as things we thought they filled the medium range of cards but not large meaning I’m not sure any of them would be the major mechanic in a block.

Last Expansion Scenario

Lets pretend for a second that the 2012 Mayan doomsday will actually happen. Would you feel comfortable with RTR being the last ever Magic expansion?

If you’re going to go out, I don’t mind going out on an encore of one of our most popular blocks.

Gruesome Encore Origins

New 15 Mar 2012 Asked by vereendood 0 Comments

The card Gruesome Encore feels a a lot more Innistrad that Scars of Mirrodin. Is it a card that was first designed for Innistrad/DKA then bumped into Mirrodin Besieged? Does it happen frequently?

One of the problems with having Scars of Mirrodin bump up against Innistrad was that both were using horror tropes as a core underlying feature. (We tried to separate them but other factors prevented us.) We ended up letting Scars of Mirrodin have science fiction horror and Innistrad have gothic horror but even then yes, there were plenty of overlapping cards that could have gone either way.
