Corrupted Crossroads

Devoid Mechanic Discussion

Is devoid a parasitic mechanic? I'm not exactly sure on how you define that. Does Corrupted Crossroads make it one? If corrupted crossroad just said a colorless spell would it be less parasitic?

Devoid isn’t parasitic. It’s just a marker.

Errata Policy

Can Corrupted Crossroads be errata'd to work with any colorless card?

We avoid functional errata.

Corrupted Crossroads Explanation

"Because we were trying to play nicely with Khans of Tarkir, Shadows over Innistrad and Kaladesh, we preferred caring about “colorless”." Then why have a card like Corrupted Crossroads that only works parasitically with devoid cards instead of colorless?

Corrupted Crossroads read oddly when it said “colorless”. Note that it was the only card that called out devoid by name.

Corrupted Crossroads Functionality

Why is it Corrupted Crossroads was printed to only work on Devoid cards as opposed to colourless cards? With the printing of the Emerge cards in Eldritch Moon, Corrupted Crossroads not helping to cast them seems a little awkward for Standard, no?

My best guess is it might have been a developmental concern. Every other card says colorless rather than “with devoid”.

Devoid Mechanic Relevance

I think people are forgetting that Corrupted Crossroads made Devoid mechanically relevant. I prefer its text over "Spend this mana only to cast a colorless spell that requires colored mana that isn't named Ghostfire."

Corrupted Crossroad would just have been a different card if we de-keyworded Devoid.

Corrupted Crossroads Design

Why doesn't Corrupted Crossroads only make colored mana for colorless spells, rather than Devoid spells? The effect would be the same except for cute things like Sunburst, but it would be more backwards compatible and less parasitic, and read more elegantly. Any specific reason it didn't work?

Spelling it out makes it clearer and causes less confusion.

Mechanical Differences

One subtle difference: corrupted crossroads can't help sunburst.

Good point.
