Consecrated Sphinx

Removing 'May' from Triggers

New 27 Apr 2022 Asked by bigratcomics 41 Comments

Could we ever see a card that removes "may" from a trigger? I want to kill someone with their own consecrated sphinx.

I’m skeptical we’ll do that as “may” is sometimes used to avoid rules issues.

Sea Monster Playability

I don't get why you have to pushy bomb sphinxes almost every set and show no love to krakens, leviathans and other monsters. They always end up being limited filler while sphinxes get commander bombs like Consecrated Sphinx. Please make sea monsters playable.

Sphinxes are blue’s iconic creature. That doesn’t mean though that we can’t make the occasional good sea monster. I’ll pass along the note.

Scars Block Watermarks

New 16 Nov 2018 Asked by rockon101000 37 Comments

Looking at the whole scars block, it looks like there are a few cards that have a phyrexian watermark without meeting any of the criteria (Banishing decree, beast within, chancellor cycle, anything that has the living weapon mechanic, consecrated sphinx, conversion chamber, the exarch cycle, despise, and many more)

That criteria was just for Scars of Mirrodin. (Note that there was a seventh criteria - being a legendary Phyrexian character). It got expanded as the Phyrexian spread later in the block.

White's Card Draw

New 28 Jul 2018 Asked by mrwatson2 29 Comments

Do you think that white could have card draw if it's tied to another player drawing cards beyond the first? Like consecrated sphinx but 1 for 1 instead of 2 for 1?

No, I don’t think we’d do that.

Blue Creatures Analysis

New 18 Jun 2012 Asked by necrogenesis 2 Comments

When you say Blue has "the smallest percentage of good creatures," are you referring to "good in theory" or "good in practice?" Blue has a long history of strong creatures if you look at constructed tournaments. Not just Faeries. There's also Merfolk, Illusions, Morphling, Psychatog, Inkwell Leviathon, Consecrated Sphinx, and the list goes on.

I was saying compared to other colors.  Also, some of blue’s early powerful creatures, weren’t powerful, they were just the best creatures in blue which was such a powerful color that simply good creatures were enough.
