Colossal Whale

Whale Trivia

Hello Mark! I turned 30 today.
Do you have any trivia about colossal whale, or whales in general?

The first Whale, with Whale printed on the card, was Killer Whale in Exodus. We had a larger creature (3/5) with an activated jump, so we liked the idea it was a sea creature jumping out of the water. I believe Killer Whale was its playtest name and it stayed.Happy 30th Birthday!

Effect Rarity Issue

You say Banisher Priest type effects are primary in white and secondary in blue and green, but I can only find 2 in blue (Colossal Whale and Day of the Dragons) and 0 in green. Can it really be labeled as secondary when none exist (assuming I haven't missed any)?

That was the one thing in the whole document where I was looking ahead. I shouldn’t have done that, but too late now. : )

Creature Flickering Flavor

What exactly is the flavor for flickering a creature? I get that first strike means good at fighting, flying is obvious, colossal whale swallows monsters, etc. but I've never understood what's going on flavorfully when I flicker something

You send it away (the opposite of summoning it) and then bring it back.

Whales as Blue Iconics

What about whales for the iconic blue creature? I know one of the big "whales" that people remember, Stormtide Leviathan, was just that, a leviathan, but it really looked and felt like a whale, and Colossal Whale is just gorgeous, I love it in terms of flavor and what it does. I don't know if whales have a large enough set of things they can be reasonably made to do in terms of design, but what are your thoughts on this?

Blue is all about knowledge so its iconic can’t be big and dumb.
