Dice Rolling Cards in Set

New 20 May 2022 Asked by theactr-blog 34 Comments

I’m starting to worry we might only get 3 cards that roll dice in the D&D set. Please tell me we have more coming!! Is the Black dragon a cycle? Do we have more cards that care about rolling dice? Am I doomed to wait until Unfinity? Also, loving the set so far!!

All I can say for now is CLB has more than three die-rolling cards.

Dragon Colors and Flavor Text

Although their "breath weapon" abilities are certainly in the color pie, the flavor text on Green Dragon, Black Dragon, and Red Dragon seems more suited to black, red, and white respectively. Is this a kind of bend? Do you know whether the designers considered having the cards' colors not necessarily match the colors of the scales?

It was talked about early and the decision was reached to match their physical color.

Core Set Dragons

Isn't is misleading for a core set to have so many non-red dragons when dragons are supposed to be red's iconic race. You can not even say that the dragons are all part of a cycle as there is a mythic rare mono black dragon in the core set.

This is Bolas’ set, so it’s a bit more Dragon-y than most core sets.

D&D Dragons Correction

"Yes, Dungeons and Dragons debuted with exactly five dragons, one matching each color of magic. Four of their five habitats also match the Magic basic lands, only white dragons (whose habitat is arctic) don't." Not exactly- OD&D debuted with the Black dragon (swamps), Blue dragon (deserts), Green dragon (Forests), Red dragon (volcanoes), and White dragon (Arctic), as well as the Golden dragon which had no particular favored location. So, six dragons, two of which do not match MtG's lands.

Monoblack Dragons Rarity

New 28 Nov 2013 Asked by magicexpandedmultiverse 7 Comments

With regards to the answer you gave for monogreen dragons, it seems a shame we don't see more monoblack dragons. A lot of the classical draconic personality, such as greed, is a perfect fit for the color... plus, the entire idea of the black dragon is pretty deeply ingrained. What are your thoughts about it?

Dragons being red’s iconic means that we do not do non-red dragons often.

Ebon Dragon's Color Break

New 06 Sep 2013 Asked by dead-hour 13 Comments

"Iconic creatures are tied to a particular color and specifically aren’t done in other colors without a strong reason." So was Ebon Dragon a mistake then?

First, the card in question is from Portal in 1997, long ago.  Second, what I said in my answer is that we’re a game who breaks its own rules but we have to do so with purpose. I could see us doing a black dragon if it was key to something but we try not to do it just to do it.
