The Princess Takes Flight

Counting Princess Cards

New 27 May 2024 Asked by zombsidian 5 Comments

Of the over 27,000 Magic cards made, only four have the word Princess in their name. The first Princess Lucrezia came out in Legends back in 1994. Two are from Eldraine, our fairy tale inspired plane: Beloved Princess and The Princess Takes Flight. The final one is the only Universes Beyond card, from The Princess Bride Secret Lair: Buttercup, Provincial Princess.

I don't mean to "Uhm, actually" but don't Princess Twilight Sparkle and Nightmare Moon // Princess Luna also count twoards the Princess name count?

They do. I don’t know why my search didn’t bring them up.

Princesses Influence

Hi Mark, Happy Birthday! You and my youngest daughter, Thaelia, share a birthday! She's too young for Magic just yet, but in her stead, might I ask for any trivia of how Princesses (her favorite topic) may have influenced Magic the Gathering?

Enjoying WOE Set

Hi Mark. I wanted to say that I am loving WOE so far. I really appreciate when sets play with game actions that you don't normally think about. Auras dying, "role replacement," intentionally sacrificing your permanents to avoid their negative effects (e.g. "The Princess Takes Flight"), or even playing cards in your deck for the sole purpose of sacrificing them away. I think you all did a really great job making WOE feel like a unique enchantment set.

I’m happy you’re enjoying it.

White's New Mechanic

Hi Maro, The Princess Takes Flight saga allows white to steal a creature. Is this a change? In the pass you have said Evangelize and Preacher are out of White Pie

It allows white to flicker a creature (over two turns) and get it back if it’s the controller. White can already do that.
