Trivia Request for Oros the Avenger

New 26 Jan 2022 Asked by dragonkillrr 36 Comments

Hi Mark can I invoke the Birthday Clause and get some trivia about my favourite dragon, Oros the Avenger? Failing that I’d take some Aesi trivia instead, plane name maybe?

In Invasion, we made a cycle of shard/arc dragons (Rith, the Awakener being the most famous). We had wanted to make the wedge versions, but finding the right set to do so was tricky. When Planar Chaos came around, we decided the what if nature of the set was a perfect opportunity. They were designed a 3MNO 6/6 flying dragons with a 2M trigger when they dealt combat damage. We couldn’t find five new “pick a color” effects we liked, so we just tied the effects to color without making the player choose.Happy Birthday!

Freyalise's Eye Patch Origin

Happy Birthday, and Memorial Day weekend! Was Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury's eye patch an intentional nod to The Avenger's Nick Fury? Thanks

That predates the Marvel movies (but not the comics), so my guess is no.

Release Date Coincidence

I would like to voice my displeasure that War ended up released during Endgame's opening weekend. It has made this weekend absurdly busy for me.

While the conspiracy buffs like to believe we planned this, it was just a happy accident that we couldn’t have made happen if we tried (presuming years ago we even knew what the Avenger movies were up to).

Grey Characters

Popular doesn't necesarily meab great. The avenger movies are a good example. They're fun and well made. But not great. Grey conflicts are great conflicts. (Everyone loves Loki, and people really like black panther, 2 grey characters. Ironman is also grey in that he's "broken")... People love grey characters. And all the franchises you listed are beloved for their characters. REMEMBER! Lesson #11: If everyone likes your game but no one loves it, it will fail.

The idea that a character has to be morally grey to be interesting is inherently flawed. Literature/film/television/theater are full of interesting characters that aren’t morally grey. And if you like morally grey characters, Magic has plenty. Even one of the core Gatewatch is morally grey.

Gatewatch Growth

New 30 Jul 2016 Asked by baron-von-lucas 35 Comments

Is there a limit to how large the gate watch can grow? Or could we end up with a huge group making story's that focus on all members a challenge?

Think of it like the Avengers (in the comics). The group can grow pretty large as stories can be about a subset. All the Avengers aren’t in most of the Avenger comics.

Avengers Movie Praise

Did you see the Avengers yet? Phenomenal!

I had high hopes going in (long time lover of comics and The Avenger, enamored of the idea of the solo movies building to a team movie, huge Joss Whedon fan, movie had amazing reviews) and every one was met.  I really enjoyed it immensely. My wife, Lora, came with me and she too really enjoyed it even though she hadn’t seen most of the solo movies and knows very little about the Marvel universe and the characters in question. I whole heartedly recommend the movie.
