Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas

Planeswalker Reprints

New 17 Oct 2018 Asked by ashepherdwood 56 Comments

To my knowledge, we haven't had any Planeswalker reprints in a standard-legal set. I'm curious if there has ever been a time where one made it into the design file only to be removed by development?

Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas was in Kaladesh for a while.

Planeswalker Card Count

RE: Blue-Black and Black-Red planeswalkers: There are in fact 4 blue-black planeswalker cards (Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas, Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver, Tezzeret, the Schemer, and Tezzeret Master of Metal) and 2 black red planeswalker cards (Sarkhan the Mad and Daretti, Ingenious Iconoclast). Also Nicol Bolas, who is all 3 colors.

There is that.

Tezzeret Reprint Consideration

I feel that this was the perfect time to reprint Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas. Was this ever considered? If yes, then why didn't you reprint him? On similiar note, Can we expect planeswalker cards reprints in Standard sets?

We did consider it but it wasn’t a great fit. We are willing to reprint planeswalkers but it’s tricky to find ones that mechanically and flavorfully fit.

Tezzeret Trivia

Greetings Mark! It was my birthday a few days ago and was wondering if I could get some trivia on one of my favorite planeswalker cards, Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas.

We spent a bit of a time when making Tezzeret discussing whether to not a planeswalker was allowed to be an Artifact Planeswalker and then if so, would Tezzeret be an Artifact Planeswalker. WE decided no on the first part so didn’t have to decide the second part.Happy Belated Birthday!

Blue/Black Planeswalkers

You've mentioned that in time, all the two-color combinations will feature a planeswalker. Do you consider Blue/Black to be filled, or is Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas too narrow to count?

If he’s blue and black and a planeswalker, he counts. That doesn’t mean we’d never do another blue/black planeswalker.
