Spirit of the Season Conundrum

New 17 Jan 2021 Asked by ace-hobo 66 Comments

Let's say, hypothetically, that I'm playing a silver-border game while sitting on the equator, today. For Spirit of the Season, would it be considered both summer and winter?

If you are exactly on the equator, you can count it as both seasons.

If you play Spirit of the Season exactly on the equator, does it get two bonuses for being in two seasons simultaneously?

Sure.

Does Punxsutawney Phil effect the duration for which Spirit of the Season uses the winter mode?

It does not.

Season Basis

New 08 Feb 2020 Asked by foobar137 28 Comments

For Spirit of the Season - is it based on astronomical seasons (which start on the solstices/equinoxes) or on meteorological seasons (which vary by region but in the US start on the firsts of March, June, September, and December)?

Follow your local calendar.

Seasonal Abilities

New 07 Feb 2020 Asked by phar1ka 29 Comments

UnQuestion: What ability would Spirit of the Season get during early spring if some, but not all players in the game observe Groundhog Day?

The seasons are based on the calendar, not the weather.

Season Count Correction

New 01 Feb 2020 Asked by bordergeist 38 Comments

Mark, its not true that all places have 4 calendrical seasons. Look at the Wikipedia page on seasons--in India, and Bangladesh, calendars have 6 seasons, and other peoples use other divisions. I would guess that most Magic players live in places with 4 seasons on their calendar, but it's not universal.

Spirit of the Season gets abilities based on it being summer, autumn, winter and spring. If your current season is none of those, then you don’t get any abilities.

Spirit Season Rules

New 30 Jan 2020 Asked by guyfrost 28 Comments

Unrules question about Spirit of the Season. Do you always get two effects, because we have two hemispheres with opposite seasons? Or does location matter, giving you no effects when playing around the equator? Or ... ?

It’s the season where you are playing the card.

Equator Seasons Question

New 28 Jan 2020 Asked by cabooswag 43 Comments

If I play Spirit of the Season while standing EXACTLY on the equator, do I meet the conditions to trigger two of the seperate ETB abilities, as I'd be playing during two seasons at once? Or do I have to pick one?

If you can be at a spot with two seasons, you get both, just as if it’s exactly subset or sunrise you get both abilities with Syr Cadian, Knight Owl
