Snuff Out

Mercadian Masques Praise

New 08 Apr 2024 Asked by zombsidian 40 Comments

I know that Mercadian Masques wasn't the most well recieved set, but as a Pauper player, I adore the wealth of interesting designs in the set. I enjoy a sneaky Snuff Out over a Deadly Rolick any day.My (very belated) high fives to all who worked on it!

*Very* belated high five.

Pauper Set Possibility

New 03 Mar 2024 Asked by idkman1234560989376521 29 Comments

What are the odds we see a pauper masters/pauper horizons set with both downshifts and new direct to pauper cards, as well as some much needed reprints (eg. snuff out)?

Odds are low. All sets, by the definition of how we make trading cards, need four rarities. I’m not sure how one even makes a Pauper set, when a giant chunk of the set isn’t playable in Pauper. Also, our general philosophy is we make things common that are supposed to be common and not make things that aren’t supposed to be common common just to make things legal in Pauper. The one exception is we will occasionally downshift rarities in more complex supplemental sets.

Green in Pauper

and about green in pauper, its the least played color right now, because of all the really good board wipes and removals we have, like snuff out, breath weapon and Krark-clan shaman, so we need some more studier one/two drop creatures or better spells that can help the creatures survive the board wipes, even ways to help exile artifacts would help a lot against the most consistent and played deck (affinity), i was sad when i saw that Haywire Mite was not common

The key is figuring out things green could use that are something we would do at common.

Questioning Innistrad Set Narrative

New 11 Nov 2021 Asked by casofsas 69 Comments

The overall impression I've gotten is that in midnight hunt, Tolvolar tries to use the Celestus to benefit his pack, and Crimson Vow is about Olivia and Edgar trying to snuff out Sigarda so they can rule the plane, Avacyns death being the only relevant thing from our lat vist to Innistrad.

The reason the day/night cycle is messed up and it’s endless night (a key plot point for the whole story) is because of Emrakul’s presence in the moon.

Phyrexian Mana Mechanics

New 10 Jan 2017 Asked by enbypizzalover 39 Comments

In a purely mechanical sense, would Phyrexian mana be a better mechanic if it worked as is, but you could only pay life if you control a corresponding land type, kinda like Snuff Out, or some other additional condition?

No. The correct implementation is to design then similar to artifacts such that they are effects we can allow other colors having access to. The mistake is we used a few effects we shouldn’t have. Making a mechanic clunkier and harder to track is usually not the right call.
