Revoke Existence

Green/White Exiling Query

New 07 Apr 2018 Asked by myheartgoesoontz 60 Comments

Re: Green/white exiling any permanent - White can exile creatures and enchantments regularly (Angelic Edict effects) and artifacts and enchantments often (Revoke Existence effects). All it misses is lands, and green hits those on Creeping Mold/Bramblecrush. Where's the break?

You made Planeswalkers cry.

Color Capabilities

If Green is supposed to be better than White at artifact/enchantment destruction, how do you explain Fade into Antiquity versus Revoke Existence?

Green is supposed to be better than average than white but that doesn’t mean one of white’s best cards can’t be better than one of green’s worst.

Revoke Existence

I thought cards like Revoke Existence was outside of White's slice of the colour pie now - this isn't an answer with an answer but more along the lines of Swords to Plowshares or Path to Exile.

White is secondary at artifact/enchantment removal. Normally it gets it at uncommon. White is also the color that most often exiles things. Revoke Existence is on the good side of white but it is within color pie. Also, remember that it is a sorcery and not an instant.

Handling Gods in Decks

Revoke Existence is the only card in the block so far that can deal with the gods permanently, if I remember correctly. Won't it just be in every deck?

Not ones without white. : ) Also, it be main decked has a lot to do with how many gods are being main-decked in the metagame. Like the piranha/goldfish paradigm, each will ebb and flow.

Revoke Existence Context

In your article, you claim that Revoke Existence was designed to deal with gods, and yet it's a reprint from three years ago. Was it a different card in design?

Fine, it was reprinted to deal with gods.

Reprint Rationale

It seems odd to reprint Revoke Existence in the same block as Fade into Antiquity. Isn't green supposed to be better at Naturalize effects?

It is, but the existence of the gods in tournament play means that we need different colors to have answers.
