Ray of Command

Limited Format Satisfaction

Hey Mark, as a limited main I wanted to say that I'm a huge fan of the kinds of cards that we've been getting lately that let us play with all time high power-level effects brought down to a fair level for limited. MKM had a fair Control Magic. OTJ has several, including references to Demonic Tutor, Ray of Command, and Snapcaster, all at uncommon. It's exciting to get to play with classic effects in a way that doesn't disrupt the balance. I'm the most eager to draft I've been since MOM!

It’s an area we’ve been enjoying exploring recently.

Color Pie Combat Control

"What colour would get a card that let you at instant speed gain control of a creature during combat (not permanently) so you could block with it?" "Blue’s the color that in color pie can do that, but we don’t tend to make it any more." Isn't that exactly what Turn Against does? Is that effect no longer Red? It WAS Blue with Ray of Command, but that was a long time ago, before Threaten and Act of Treason. Turn Against was as recent as Battle for Zendikar.

Red gets temporary stealing but only at sorcery speed so it’s only usable on offense.

Morph Mechanic Rules

I have an unmorphed card that my opponent gains control of through Ray of Command. Does my opponent have the ability to flip the card over and look at it, even if they don't know the cost to morph it, or perhaps the mana to pay for it?

You are allowed to look at face down morphs that you control (and its owner whoe doesn’t control it cannot).

Act of Treason Shift

New 14 Sep 2012 Asked by vindae 8 Comments

Since M10, it seems like every block has an Act of Treason type effect. Why'd you shift it from Blue (Ray of Command), and can we look forward to one in Return? Can we look forward to a Blue one? They're some of my favourite effects, and with all the Flickering, they're even better.

Blue had too much and Red didn’t have enough, so we took the temporary stealing and moved it to red.  Yes, Return to Ravnica has one (most sets these days do) and no it’s not blue. It’s red as it should be.
