Coastal Piracy Effects in Green

New 28 Apr 2022 Asked by j-waffles 40 Comments

Are coastal piracy effects in green now? We’ve gotten Toski and Ohran frostfang relatively close together, and they’re the first ones in mono-green

Curiosity is primary blue and secondary green. That’s been true for a long time.

Legendary Squirrel Disappointment

I originally got my wife into magic by building her a Squirrel deck, presented a few cards at a time, Advent-style, with tokens drawn by our kids. I was *really* looking forward to the legendary squirrel! It feels pointless to argue about whether it's a pushed Ohran Frostfang or a colorshifted Coastal Piracy. I didn't think there was a way to make a legendary squirrel not fun, but tying it to green's unstoppable color pie creep did the job.

Monogreen has had the curiosity effect since Onslaught (2002). If it’s color pie creep, we’re playing the long game. : )

Snow Creature Logic

Hi Mark, One of my favorite mechanics is Snow. I was so happy to get a snow creature in C19, so thank you! Some creatures, in my opinion, should have been snow to begin with, i.g., yeti's from Takir. Why couldn't these creature have been snow? By all means, they do not need a snow mechanic nor interact with other snow permanents, but they are yetis. Can we expect to see other permanents who are deserving of the "Snow" supertype in future sets like Ohran Frostfang in C19?

It depends on how much we plan supporting Snow. There’s a word creep that can happen in type lines if you always support every flavorful supertype and subtype.

Green's Card Draw

Keeper of Fables from Throne of Eldraine and Ohran Frostfang from C19 are two similar card draw effects in green. Will we be seeing more of this?

Green has been secondary in “curiosity” for years.
