Pippa's Reroll Rules

New 04 Apr 2021 Asked by veenilla 28 Comments

Un-Rules Question: If I am using a die as a memory aid (for example, to remember the boost from Growth Spurt being maintained through Staying Power), is that die (and it's associated value) a valid target for Pippa to reroll?

No. Pippa can only reroll dice (and dice creature tokens) that are rolled by spells and effects.

Blackborder Roll Mechanics

As of now, would you do a card with rules text that included rolling a die in blackborder? Sth. like "Growth Spurt" for example?

As of now, no. The boundary between black and silver border is ever-moving though so perhaps one day.

Theros Sales Analysis

New 25 Jul 2014 Asked by shm128iii 32 Comments

There's been a lot of talk about how Theros (which I for one quite enjoyed), in your own words, "didn't hit any home runs, but got lots of doubles and triples." And yet, at the same time, it's gone on to be the best-selling Magic block so far. Do you think there's any particular reason that a good-but-not-great block managed to outsell other, more well-received/mechanically successful blocks? What take-aways are there from this?

Magic’s in the middle of a growth spurt. Also, not every time up up bat is a home run. You still win games with lots of doubles and triples.

Garruk's Height

Tom LaPille posted a photo to twitter of a Japanese Garruk bio card that listed Garruk's height as about 5'11". The new DOTPW lists him as over 8 feet. Growth spurt?

He was always over eight feet.

HAL9000 Feeling

Did you get a bit of a creepy HAL9000 feeling while writing the second part of today's article? I certainly did while reading it.

I honestly think Duels of the Planeswalkers is the best tool we’ve ever made for teaching Magic. The game’s recent growth spurt I believe is partially because of this fact. No one forced me to write the last part of today’s column. I wrote it because I believe it.
