Dragonmaster Outcast

Mythic Reprint Feelings

New 25 Oct 2015 Asked by manafool 63 Comments

I really really love Battle for Zendikar, but I was slightly sad today to open Dragonmaster Outcast as my mythic rare. Unless it's something really strong, a mythic reprint feels less special than something brand new.

It *is* really strong. Jon Finkel, who just had his 15th Pro Tour top 8, had it in his deck.

Employee Prerelease Recap

How did you do at the employee pre-release? More important: what did you play and did you have fun?

I opened Gideon and Dragonmaster Outcast so I went Red/White. I went 3-2 with both matches I lost being very close. I am so excited for you all to play with it at the prerelease as it is definitely a set that has to be played to be understood. Having the Eldrazi makes things a little weird which makes it harder to evaluate than normal.

Art Reprint Choices

Were Felidar Sovereign and Dragonmaster Outcast added late in development, or is their having the same art as their original printing an aesthetic thing (perhaps because we won't be getting same-art reprints in core sets ever again)?

With the absence of the core sets, we are looking for places where beautiful art can return. The current plan is if the old art is very good and makes sense in the new set we will consider reprinting the art.

Dragon Lord Details

I can't find the dragon lord. Are you sure there is one? Karrthus would probably count but he's legendary.

There’s a bunch: Bladewing the Risen, Crucible of Fire (okay, not a creature),  Dragonmaster Outcast, Dragonspeaker Shaman, Dragonstorm (okay, another noncreature), Imperial Hellkite, Kaalia of the Vast (lord to angels and demons as well), Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund, Scion of the Ur-Dragon and Zirlan of the Claw. I might have forgotten one or two.
