Panglacial Wurm Erratum

New 27 Aug 2023 Asked by faerross 45 Comments

Panglacial WurmI've seen sufficient debate from rules experts about whether or not Panglacial Wurm actually functions within the rules - or if it's merely accepted as an oddity and any possible rules issues brushed off. Regardless, it's odd such a nebulous rules space is permitted for a the benefit of a single card.Has WotC ever considered an erratum to tweak the rules slightly? What were the strongest arguments and obstacles that came up?Example erratum: "While you're searching your library, you may exile P.W. from your library. When you do, you may cast it from exile."This could alternatively be a rules update that formally defines how 'casting while searching' works. This particular version would have mechanical distinctions of possible relevance, but I believe it would preserve the vast majority of the card's function while making the rules surrounding it more straight-forward.

Sometimes we do something that we retroactively realize we shouldn’t have done. Our general strategy is to avoid doing it again rather than double down on figuring out how to make it work a little better.

Errata Request for Wavesifter

New 22 Dec 2021 Asked by lebreadbox-blog 31 Comments

I have been convinced of the errors of my ways regarding muldrifter and thus retract my request. But i double down on the request for "wavesifter" which, is an actual goldfish to receive an errata to fish.

Fair enough.

Bizarre Kamigawa Spirits

New 13 Dec 2021 Asked by dusqofrakdos 32 Comments

While I loved the bizarre Kamigawa spirits, do you think it would have been/would be acceptable to make such creatures elemental spirits if they show up again? It would double down on tribal stuff of course (maybe even for the better) but it also might make people more accepting of them.

The Kamigawa Spirits weren’t Elementals in how Magic defines Elementals.

Jiangg's Companion Mowu

New 02 Apr 2019 Asked by kawauso98-blog-blog 80 Comments

So we've now got a planeswalker who is known for taking his dog with him on traipses through the multiverse. But we've also just had Ajani's Pridemate via flavour text double down on the "summoned creatures aren't the real deal they're just mana replicas created from memory" thing. I get why narratively we don't want 'walkers pulling things across the planes but doesn't this really undercut the idea of Jiangg travelling around with Mowu (and the impact of creature removal, narratively)?

Mowu is not a copy. The dog is planeswalking with Jiangg. It’s a special part of Jiangg’s planeswalking ability.

"Dupliclone is probably the best in the market, but Double Down is an up-and-comer" And how exactly do you happen to know that kind of stuff? :P

I hear things.

Sleep-Inspired Design

You need to double down on this. Between Goblin test Pilot and entwine you're not far from making sleeping one of your official duties and thereby solving your perpetual sleep shortage.

I’ve run out of time during the day to do Magic design, so I’ve had to turn to sleep. : )

Doubling Season Query

What are the odds on Doubling Season giving Standard a second run?

I wouldn’t double down on it. I tried during Zendikar (it was handed in with the set design) but development had to take it out because it breaks planeswalkers.
