Disintegrate

Slang for Death Exile

New 22 Oct 2021 Asked by rolscane 57 Comments

Does R&D have a slang for "If that creature would die this turn, exile it instead."? My playgroup calls it "lava damage" but that's probably not what you call it.

We just use “disintegrate” as that’s the card that did it first.

First Exile Cards

What was the first card to exile something?

Swords to Plowshares and Disintegrate were in Alpha. It wasn’t called “exile” at the time though just “remove from the game”.

Planeswalker Journal Rules

Do a Planeswalkers journals also disintegrate when they Planeswalkers or can they keep them? It would be rather sad if a walker couldn't bring their notes with them from plane to plane.

Planeswalkers can carry a small amount of items. Tamiyo, for example, has her journal.

Color Pie Consideration

You mentioned you don't like red burn spells to become basically kill spells, as that would infringe upon black part of the color pie(and to a lesser extend white's). How does Harnessed Lightning in any energy deck not violate this, especially since there is only 1 card in standard that interacts with energy?

Harnessed Lightning turns a resource into damage. Red’s been doing that since Fireball and Disintegrate in Alpha.

Red's Exile Mechanics

How does the color pie feel about Into The Core exiling things in Red? Is it OK because of the environment it's in?

Red occasionally exiles things most often as a rider on burn spells to flavorfully show it’s really burned it up (see Alpha’s Disintegrate as an example.)
