Green's Compatibility with Black

New 22 Apr 2024 Asked by shiggymegamitiggy 44 Comments

Council of colors question. Black/Green cards sometimes show a subversion of nature. For example, Dark Heart of the Woods and Squandered Resources both deal with the abuse of natural resources, and Grim Feast seems to imply cannibalism. Philosophically, why is Green OK with partnering with Black to produce such effects?

It’s less that green chooses to partner with black, and more that that philosophy requires a combination of black and green philosophies.

Viability of Laccolith Ability

Could Blue/black get the laccolith ability (dealing damage to a different creature instead) as a shared combat ability? It seems to fall into the trickery and subversion style of that play.

It’s not something blue does.

Planeswalkers' Stories

New 31 Dec 2015 Asked by progste 22 Comments

Lately all your sets (except core sets and special sets) have been focused on planeswalkers trying to save a plane (RTR, Theros, BFZ) or simply trying to change it (Tarkir). Now that the new block structure has been implemented is there a chance we'll see that is not under immediate threat of destruction/subversion and a story in which walkers are just on the side, like for example Conspiracy, but in one of the main expansions?

The reason the plane is usually in some kind of jeopardy is we tend to tell environmental stories. Note that as we tell a continuing story, we will be telling different kinds of tales.

Story Engagement Growth

When you announced Rise of the Eldrazi, nobody was upset that the story was spoiled. When you announced Avacyn Restored, many people were confused as to why you gave out the ending (some even thought there was some kind of subversion and that she'd be evil). Does this mean SOM block did its job in making players invest their interest in the story?

I believe we are getting better at involving the average player in the story.
