Skirsdag High Priest

Conspiracy Prerelease Luck

New 07 Jun 2014 Asked by chewie-shank-mtg 50 Comments

I just had the conspiracy prerelease and I got really lucky. I first picked a heartless hidetsugu and second picked a fact or fiction so I decided to go blue red. I then opened (and first picked) a dack fayden in the second pack and second picked a lore seeker. I got innistrad, and opened three rares (skirsdag high priest, ludevic's test subject, and a foil gavony township, so I used an agent of acquisitions I got in the first pack to draft the whole pack. Conspiracy is great :)

Sounds like you had a great time (and lots of luck).

Activation Clarification

Why do things like Skirsdag High Priest need to specify in their activation that you have to tap untapped creatures? Is there an obscure rule somewhere that allows you to tap tapped creatures? It seems kind of like something that says "Destroy target creature on the battlefield." or when discard used to mention that it was discarded from the hand.

We say “untapped” because we’ve learned it causes a lot of confusion if we don’t.

Defining 'Dies'

New 01 Sep 2011 Asked by gougar 1 Comments

I was looking at Skirsdag High Priest and it says that its ability ca only be activated if a creature died that turn, is that just new phrasing, or is it older, or is it somehow different than just being destroyed?

Magic 2012 introduced the term “die”. A creature dies when it “is put into the graveyard from the battlefield”. Note that other permanents do not die only creatures.
