Rebuff the Wicked

Pie Color Hierarchy

New 15 May 2022 Asked by valkyri-anna 20 Comments

Given that “counter target spell” is a break in White, what would you have Rebuff the Wicked say instead to maintain the same effect but get it in pie?

Rebuff the Wicked is in white color pie as it protects creatures. It acts a lot like “target creature you control gains protection from the color of your choice”.

Defining Rebuff the Wicked

"White can't do a straight counter, even with a consolation. It can either do taxing counters (it's countered unless they pay N) or delaying counters (counter it and put it back into their hand)."So, Rebuff the Wicked is a break?

No, because it’s basically mimicks granting protection to a creature you control. It’s another subset white can do - protecting its creatures.

Planar Chaos Discussion

"Repeat with me everyone - Planar Chaos doesn’t count. : )" I'd argue that the non color shifted cards should be considered normal for Magic, and both Rebuff the Wicked and Dawn Charm were not color shifted.

The time-shifted cards were reprints that were color shifted. The whole set made use of the alternate color pie.

Guttural Response Debate

So you think guttural response was a mistake...*sigh*, as if it's a crime to have counterspells in a secondary color. You keep saying "they're in white, counterspells are secondary in white"; Well Mark, typically when one says something is secondary, that means there's more than 0 cards falling under that definition. (Im)patiently waiting...

Lapse of Certainty, Dawn Charm, Rebuff the Wicked. Mana Tithe was in Planar Chaos but I think we could do it in a normal set. There’s not a lot of them, but white does dabble a little (aka greater than 0.)
