Mutation Concerns

New 12 Apr 2020 Asked by myfavoriteflavorisblue 29 Comments

I'm a bit disappointed there isn't a card to let me mutate any creatures I have. Like a quicken that let you cast a creature as a mutation. Were there play concerns that prevented this?

It was more rules concerns.

Conditional Flash Sorceries

New 21 Oct 2019 Asked by minoke5618 38 Comments

Regarding conditional flash on sorceries - yes, flash is used. Crashing Tide, Rout, and Swift Reckoning are recent examples, and Quicken can make your next sorcery have flash. But it's always conditional (an additional cost, or controlling a certain thing like a Merfolk).

I stand corrected.

Game Design Thanks

New 23 May 2017 Asked by withinthe 35 Comments

Thanks for your advice, Maro! I've been working on a game lately, and the games were going really long. One of my play testers had some ideas to quicken things up, but I had been really resistant to such a big change. After listening to your podcast on Fun, I decided to swallow my pride and try it. It was so much better! Everyone wanted to play another round. Just wanted to say thank you!

You’re welcome. Always happy to hear I could help.

Player Type Confusion

New 14 Mar 2016 Asked by thequietvoicethatstillsthes-blog 52 Comments

I see way too much complaint from Spikes. Almost every card 'isn't good enough'. I occasionally hear Timmy complaints like Day's Undoing not working with Quicken. But I never hear Johnny complaints. I think I'm going to become a Johnny complainer. I'd just like to officially say that I think Avacyn should've costed 4 more and started off as an 9/9 with trample.

You are confusing Timmy/Tammy and Johnny/Jenny.

Quicken and Cipher Combo

To be fair, Quicken was in the same format as Cipher, so there was possibility for instant-speed Ciphering.

Two-card combos are very different than one-card combos.

Color of Magic Manipulation

New 07 Apr 2013 Asked by despoglee 12 Comments

Why are Quicken effects (playing a sorcery as an instant) blue? Isn't red the color of impatience?

Blue is the color that manipulates magic.
