Kor Spiritdancer

Dancer as a Creature Type

"Bard is more likely than Dancer as it’s more fantasy." You've had many creatures flavored as dancers already, like Kor Spiritdancer, Wind Dancer, Wakedancer, Satyr Firedancer, Satyr Grovedancer, Ivy Dancer, and Leaf Dancer. Plus there are dancers that show up quite frequently in fantasy series such as Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy. Dancers are a very popular trope in fantasy, and it's not hard to justify their dancing as a form of magic casting, hence the concept of Dance spells. : )

We’re not anti-dancing. I was just talking about the likeliness of Dancer becoming a creature type.

Card Draw Exceptions

How do you explain Mesa Enchantress (also printed outside of Planar Chaos), Kor Spiritdancer, Puresteel Paladin and Mentor of the Meek? Color pie violations, or color pie of the past that has since changed?

Card drawing is pretty basic so even being fifth means you get a little.

Mechanically Perfect Reprints

In designing a set, do you ever run to the issue of wanting to put in a mechanically perfect reprint that doesn't fit flavorfully but runs the risk of causing issues in eternal formats if you make a new one with a new creature type or something? For example, Kor Spiritdancer could have been awesome in Theros block somewhere but is a Kor and wouldn't make sense there but giving Modern Spiritdancer 5-8 might be broken.

We won’t put a card in a set that doesn’t fit creatively. If we can’t have 5-8 in eternal formats then that means we don’t use it in the current set.
