Juxtapose

Learning Vocabulary

I learned the word juxtapose from the card.

I’ve heard so many great stories about players learning vocabulary from cards. “How’d you do so well on your SAT Verbal?” “Magic.” : )

What's the card you used back in the days to give people walls?

Juxtapose.

Crab Trivia

Seeing as it's also my birthday, and in honor of your crableg crisis, I would like to request some trivia about the card that is not a crab until it becomes a crab anyway: Chromeshell Crab. Happy Birthday, Maro!

One of my favorite cards before I came to Wizards was Juxtapose from Legends. I have made numerous spells with that effect (swapping a creature with an opponent) include the Crab. Happy Birthday, fellow birthday celebrator!

Favorite M13 Cards

Dear Maro, I couldn't help but notice that Switcheroo looks exactly like the sort of card you love. Are there any other M13 cards you'd have built around when you were still playing professionally?

I didn’t make Switcheroo but I did make Tempest’s Legerdemain. One of my favorite decks in my pre-Wizards days involved Gauntlets of Chaos and Juxtapose.

Strategy Sharing

That's absolutely filthy. How do you go about giving the wall to your opponent?

Back then I used a card called Juxtapose that allowed me to swap one of my creatures for one of yours.  This deck, by the way, inspired me to create the card Donate that just let you give something of yours to your opponent.

Unique Deck Strategy

You once wrote that you had a deck that's win condition involved playing the card Tunnel. To this day i have kept a copy of that card in my binder. Would you ever consider sharing the deck list or the main idea of it?

My deck was full of walls with a high toughness. I then would use cards to boost their toughness until it was equal to the opponent’s life total. I would Juxtapose to trade my toughest wall with one of my opponent’s creatures. Then I put Creature Bond on the wall I gave away and cast Tunnel on it. Remember that the goal of the deck was winning by casting the card Tunnel (“Destroy target wall”) so yes this was a pretty wacky deck.
