Eidolon of Blossoms

Enchantment Card Drawing

New 13 Dec 2019 Asked by cleverconvict 21 Comments

Drawing a card when you play an enchantment has bounced between Green and White - Verduran Enchantress in Alpha to 8th to Mesa Enchantress in M10 and M12 to Eidolon of Blossoms in Journey of Nyx and now Setessan Champion. Is this ability back only in green, or is it still part of white's color pie?

Both green and white have some access to it.

Enchantment Lands Impact

Regarding constellation, there was a entire deck in that standard format where enchantment lands would've broken it by providing insane card draw and actually endless wrath effects on the back of Eidolon of Blossoms and Doomwake Giant.

An enchantment land would have caused problems.

Color Pie Considerations

Green's card draw is linked to its creatures, which is why I suppose Argothian Enchantress, Verduran Enchantress, Eidolon of Blossoms and Femeref Enchantress are fine from a colour pie standpoint. But what about Enchantress's Presence? What colour(s) should it be?

Not every card needs to be doable in monocolor.

Artifact Lands vs Constellation

"our experience with artifact lands... would have forced development to raise the costs of all the cards with the constellation mechanic." Yeah but constellation triggers on enchantments played after, not counts the total including those played prior to the card like affinity. So enchant land played on turns 1-4 doesn't do anything broken. Drawing 1 extra off Eidolon of Blossoms turn 5 is meh. Especially since Nyx could have been legendary land, so it only happens once.

Despite your disbelief, an enchantment land would very much power up constellation.

Eidolon Effect Placement

I've been rather curious ever since the card was spoiled: What was the process that led to the Eidolon of Blossoms effect being put in Green rather than Blue? It seems to me, at least, that it would fit better in Blue.

Green has a long tradition of “enchantresses” that draw you a card when you play an enchantment.

Enchantress Ability Color

I liked that it seemed Enchantresses had moved into white, as white likes enchantments the most, but the awesome Eidolon of Blossoms shows that greens history with them still strongly affects present day Enchantress design. So are they still mostly a white thing, or is it back to green again? Also good call on Constellation I can't wait to see more white cards with it.

The “Enchantress” ability is both green and white.

Enchantress Color Distribution

Do you think it's odd that, until Eidolon of Blossoms, that the most recently printed Enchantress is a white card, Mesa Enchantress? Why no Veduran Enchantress?

The ability is something we do in green and white.

Eidolon of Blossoms Color

Why isn't Eidolon of Blossoms blue? Creating enchantments = growth?

Enchantresses, green creature that draw you cards when you play enchantments, go all the way back to Alpha with Verduran Enchantress.
