Baleful Strix

Shift in Cantrip Creature Color

New 10 Feb 2022 Asked by wriggleman 39 Comments

I thought "2-mana 1/1 ETB Draw 1" creatures such as Baleful Strix, Dusk Legion Zealot, Elvish Visionary were Sultai color thing. And now we have Spirited Companion. I mean, there were some white "2-mana Draw 1" creatures like Wall of Omen, Orator of Ojutai, but those both had Defender and something else I can't remember as its disadvantage. What has changed and why is it an enchantment on top of it?

Part of our getting white more card drawing was moving small cantrip creatures from green to white. Green will still have larger cantrip creatures but the low drops will now be a primary white thing.

Standard vs Modern Testing

New 22 Dec 2016 Asked by steinfeld91-blog-deactivated202 54 Comments

Testing for standard is not sufficient for modern as it stands because they represent entirely different contexts. It seems disingenuous to tell us baleful strix is too high risk but it's ok to release TKS into a format with Eye of Ugin

It’s better than zero testing. The harsh reality is we have a small group of playtesters to test what is one of the most complex games on the market. And that’s just for two formats (Standard and draft) of many.I consider development to have the harder job and I have to take blank pieces of paper and turn them into brand new play environments.Yes, it’s not perfect, but we have limited resources and gave to allocate them the best we can.

Commander Deck Choices

You put True-Name Nemesis and Baleful Strix into the same Commander deck however. So either you did this on purpose, knowing what would happen, or the people at WotC are truly incompetent. Which one is it?

There are other options. : )

About Commander 2013 decks, i'll just say: AMAZING! Goblin Sharpshooter, Basalt Monolith, Rubinia, Baleful Strix and so on... Tell me one thing, what is the drawback of getting one?

Excess happiness? : )
