Winged Sliver

Sliver Planeswalker Likelihood

New 10 Apr 2022 Asked by ambermage 47 Comments

What is the likelihood of ever getting a Sliver Planeswalker?

Low, being that it wouldn’t do what people think it would nor does it make great flavor sense as most Slivers aren’t sapient.Again, Slivers are shapeshifters that share a group mind. Other Slivers can fly when near a Winged Sliver because it’s implanting the knowledge of how to grow wings. There’s no way to share knowledge of having a spark. There’s nothing to shapeshift into to be able to planeswalk.

Can Slivers Possess a Spark

Can slivers get a spark and would it be shared if they did?

It’s possible, but no they wouldn’t share it. Slivers are a telepathic hive mind of shapeshifters that can share information. Winged Sliver grants flying to other Slivers because it shares the knowledge of how to form wings. You can’t shapeshift a spark.

Slivers and Keyword Counters

Re: keyword counters and Slivers. I think you could do it by putting a counter on all Slivers (that don't already have one) whenever a Sliver enters the battlefield, right?

But that’s not how Silvers work. If you get rid of Winged Sliver, the other Slivers lose flying.

Sliver Design Potential

The Sliver well isn't as tapped-out as one might think. For - it could be quite easy to simply release an old 'affects everyone' Sliver in a tweaked form that only affects your hive instead, right? It's like when M14 came around, Slivers were rebooted. Like how Winged Sliver was reincarnated into Galerider Sliver.

As you just pointed out, we already used that trick.

Slivers Sharing Information

If slivers only share information then how do they start flying or sprouting limbs when one does?

They are shapeshifters. The Winged Sliver is sharing the information how to shapeshift wings.

Slivers and Planeswalking

New 07 Feb 2016 Asked by baron-von-lucas 51 Comments

another sliver planeswalk question. so assuming there was a plane of just flying slivers. one planeswalked to a plane of just haste slivers. he would then have flying/haste, correct? but if he planeswalked back home, he wouldnt take the haste with him? wouldnt he still have that knowledge to share with his home plane?

Slivers don’t gain the knowledge. They merely have access to it while in physical proximity to the Sliver that does. Let’s assume Humans could function like Slivers. When I’m close enough to my karate instructor, I can do karate at the proficiency she can. But as soon as I walk away, I no longer have any of the advanced knowledge. It’s why when I kill your Winged Sliver that all your other Slivers no longer fly.

Slivers Hive Mind Mechanics

New 07 Feb 2016 Asked by zoocalu 80 Comments

Too my knowledge slivers gain their abilities from what the have observed, and then they share it with the hivemind. So a sliver queen type card that has a spark would work. It would b most vulnerable upon the initial planeswalk.

I am the co-creator of the Magic slivers (story wise, Mike Elliott designed the mechanic). They are shapechangers that share a hive mind with other slivers that are in close physical proximity. The Winged Sliver can fly because it knows how to create wings. When it is near other slivers, they now know how to shape wings so they too can fly. When the Winged Sliver is no longer near them, they no longer know how to form wings and thus can no longer fly. The only abilities they gain is from sharing knowledge most often how to shapeshifting a useful body part. They cannot share anything other than knowledge.
