On Flavor Fails

Regarding "flavor fails" I'd like to share an excerpt from the Alpha rulebook's Q&A segment:
"Q: Can my opponent do something that doesn't make much sense, such as casting both Holy Strength and Unholy Strength on his Air Elemental?"
A: Yes, these effects are magical, after all." "Flavor fails" are canonically "as Garfield intended"! :)

Demons Historical Gap

In the Iconic/Characteristic podcast, you said that Demons got locked in fairly early as the Black iconic. But wasn't there a period of several years where Wizards wasn't printing any demons or cards flavored around demonic influences? I even remember the 4th edition art of several cards changing to remove pentagrams, like Unholy Strength.

Yeah, we removed Demons from the game for a few years. I was going to talk about it in the podcast and forgot about it. Vampires filled in for Demons during that time period.

90s Panic Effects

Did the Satanic Panic of the 90s cause any other forms of change or censorship like it did with changing Demons to Beasts?

Unholy Strength lost a pentagram in its art for a while.

Adjusting Creature Stats

Was it ever considered to make Twins of Maurer Estate 5/3 instead of 3/5? Then they'd be two Little Girls with Unholy Strength (instead of Holy Strength like they do now)

We’ve been pushing Black to have more toughness greater than power to help differentiate it from Red.

Magic Body Sprays

Have you guys ever considered marketing your own brand of body sprays with enchantments for names? I could imagine many players being excited at the prospect of wearing "Fiery Mantle," "Telepathy," or "Verdant Embrace" to their next pre-release or tournament.

“What are you wearing?”“Unholy Strength.” : )
