Fourth Edition Reprints

New 09 Feb 2020 Asked by szwanger 23 Comments

Follow-up question on Fourth Edition reprints: 3rd Ed had a whole bunch of cards that were deemed so strong that they needed to be restricted (as during 3rd Ed there was no Standard) such as Black Vise, Ivory Tower, etc. Why were they reprinted in Fourth Ed?

I don’t know. Before my time at Wizards.

I always here about the Pit and Helvault, R&D sounds like a magical place. What other names do you guys have for rooms?

The R&D meeting rooms: - Ivory Tower
- Mishra’s Workshop
- Eye of Ugin
- The Helvault
- Danger Room (the only nonMagic reference - it’s the X-Men, based on the “office” that Richard got that he let people use to play games)

What's the conference room's name where you had Gavin's birthday presentation? Was that the Helvault?

No, it was Ivory Tower.

Wizards Office Themes

So a lot of the offices/meetings rooms at Wizards are themed and named after the theme. Could you share pics of some of your favorites?

There actually aren’t a ton of names in here named directly after MTG lore. We recently named the new downstairs common area Dominaria (with conference rooms Waterdeep and Ravnica attached). Would Ivory Tower too powerful to be reprinted in standard/modern?

Let me start by saying that I’m not a developer. That said, Ivory Tower is way too powerful for Standard.
