Graveyard Busybody

Combat Rule Scenario

New 15 Nov 2023 Asked by blazinjsin 29 Comments

If I have out Graveyard Busybody and Over My Dead Body, and I attack everyone with the creatures in their own graveyards, I assume those creatures can't be announced to block instead?

The defending player can only block with creatures in their own graveyard, but they no longer control a graveyard, so they have no one to block with.

Rule for Graveyard Busybody

Speaking of Un-rules, I’ve always wondered why the ruling for Graveyard Busybody is that graveyards become yours alone. The rules text says “also”. Can’t we share a graveyard?

“Also” means in addition to yours. Gaining control of your opponent’s graveyard doesn’t make you lose yours.

Does Graveyard Busybody allow me to put my opponent's cards into my hand with cards like Name Dropping and Eternal Witness?

Yes.

Un-rules question - How does Graveyard Busybody interact with an effect that shuffles your graveyard into your library (e.g. your original eldrazi titan getting milled)? Does it shuffle just your original graveyard into your library, each person's graveyards into their perspective library, or everyone's graveyards into your library?

Each graveyard in shuffled into its owner’s library.

Un-question. If I have graveyard busybody (making all graveyards my own) and I use elixir of immortality, do I shuffle all graveyards Into my deck?

No, cards always go into their owner’s library much as cards bounce to their owner’s hand.

You state in your FAQAWASLFAQPAFTIDAWABIAJTBT that Graveyard Busybody's "All graveyards are also your graveyards." means that those zones are "no longer under the control of other players." If that is true, what exactly does the "also" in its text mean and why doesn't it result in both players controlling those zones like it would seem to imply?

Two players can’t both control the same thing. It causes unresolvable paradoxes. The “also” is there because the graveyard is still connected to its owner for purposes of where their dead things go. They don’t control their graveyard but are still connected to it.

Graveyard Busybody states "All graveyards are ALSO your graveyards." so if it's shared, why do you get priority for something like Twilight's Call?

It’s only your opponent’s graveyard in the sense that their cards go there. The controller of the Busybody controls all the creatures in all graveyards. There are no priority issues.

Looking for an un-ruling. If I have graveyard busybody in play and then resolve twilight's call "each player returns all creature cards from their graveyard to the battlefield" Who gets the creatures in my opponents graveyards?

You do. You control the creatures in all the graveyards.

First off, thank you for unstable, draft was amazing! Watching a storm crow wield Umezawa's Jitte, only to fall to a perfectly normal armchair was fantastic. My question is If i control Graveyard Busybody, and play Over My Dead Bodies, can I attack with all the graveyard creatures, in all the graveyards.

You can. They’re all yours.

Graveyard Busybody Ownership

New 23 Nov 2017 Asked by ravenknightvincent 24 Comments

Doesn't Graveyard Busybody uses the word "Also", which would make your graveyard yours along with Busybody's controller? What is with the graveyard ownership fight in the FAQ?

The also is because the opponent still has some connection to it. Their spells go to it and their permanents die to it. They don’t control it, can’t reference things in it for effects and can’t use cards in it. Note that even in silver border, two players can’t both have control of something.

Graveyard Control Nuances

In your FAQ etc. article, you mention that Graveyard Busybody has you "gain control" of everyone else's graveyards, but the card itself says "Other player's graveyards are *also* yours", which implies that you just share joint custody of those graveyards. I just wanted to make absolutely sure that the rules are definitely "You gain control, they lose control". Is that correct?

It’s still theirs in the sense that their spells and permanents go there when they are cast/die. They don’t control it, count it or can use it.

Anticipation for Unstable

New 22 Nov 2017 Asked by jstache 37 Comments

Maro, I've never been so excited for a new set. Over My Dead Bodies is exactly the card I hoped to see in Unstable, and Graveyard Busybody is the card I never knew I wanted until now. Is it too good to be true?

It is not. Unstable on sale December 8.
