Complex Combo Inquiry

New 17 Dec 2023 Asked by aalgot 63 Comments

If I do the form of the approach of the second sun + aether vortex + oath combo to put myself on the battlefield, does the permanent that I represent have my energy counters on it

I’m not sure. Let me think on that. Good question.

Aether Vortex Query

New 22 Nov 2023 Asked by aalgot 34 Comments

For form of the approach of the second sun + aether vortex. How much loyalty do we have?

None inherently. You’ll need something like Rules Lawyer to keep from being removed from the battlefield for having no loyalty.

Acorn Rules Inquiry

New 12 Nov 2023 Asked by acornquestions 61 Comments

Hey Mark, Acorn question: If I become a card due to my Form of the Approach of the Second Sun, do I have any rules? Can I cast myself with Future Sight (even if I stop being a card once I enter the stack, because I left my library)? Is there anything that I can do with myself being on the battlefield due to Yet Another Æther Vortex?

You don’t have rules text or a mana cost, but I have ruled you are a planeswalker. If you get onto the battlefield with Yet Another Aether Vortex, you’ll need something like Rules Lawyer to keep from being destroyed by having 0 loyalty.

Un-Rules Logic

New 18 Aug 2023 Asked by kitsovereign 29 Comments

Un-Rules question: Why does Form of the Approach of the Second Sun make you a planeswalker card? Shouldn't you be transformed into a sorcery card instead? (I get that players are planeswalkers in the lore, but by that logic, you'd think that Hero's Downfall could take out a player in Un-games.)

Because if you get turned into a card, the closest one to the flavor is a planeswalker. Note Hero’s downfall only destroys planeswalker permanents.

Casting Yourself

Could I get a reminder on how “Form of The Approach of the Second Sun” works if I successfully cast “myself” without drawing myself, what permanent would I be, a Planeswalker?

You are a planeswalker. How did you cast yourself?

Unfinity Draft Fun

New 22 Oct 2022 Asked by rc-ds2 43 Comments

Hello, Good Sir,I played an Unfinity draft last weekend and managed to win the last game of the last match by drawing myself with Form of the Approach of the Second Sun. Everyone around, including people who weren’t playing the draft, cheered. For anyone interested, wearing a top hat made a big difference (also played B/W hats). Thank you for the good times.

Thanks for sharing your story. Happy to hear you had so much fun.

Self-Stick Strategy

New 09 Oct 2022 Asked by dapatman-blog 37 Comments

If Form of the Approach of the Second Sun is making me a card, and I'm on the battlefield thanks to Yet Another Aether Vortex, can I sticker myself?

Assuming you have a means to survive with no loyalty, yes.

Witch Hat Balancing

New 09 Oct 2022 Asked by you-are-a-fishmonger 28 Comments

For form of the approach of the second sun, can I put the cards under my hat? I don't want to change my hat just to draft, that feels like metagaming, but since it's October I'll be wearing a witch hat and they'll definitely not balance on top

You’re allowed to balance it on top of your hat, but you can’t put a hat on top of it as you’re no lingering balancing them. Balancing means you’re using only gravity to keep it on your head.

Player's Card Type

New 08 Oct 2022 Asked by noahdoestechthings 21 Comments

With form of the approach of the second sun and yet another aether vortex, what is the player's card type? Are we still supposed to be planeswalkers?

You are a planeswalker card when you become a card.

Form of Approach Rules

New 08 Oct 2022 Asked by aninterestingidea 18 Comments

Do you stop being a card if you’ve played Form of Approach of the Second Sun and cards fall off your head? It doesn’t say you stop being a card when it’s sacrificed, and the release notes say “As long as you're still in your library, you'll remain a card even if Form of the Approach of the Second Sun leaves the battlefield.”

You stop being a card once the other cards fall.

Mana Value in Deck

I am so excited for Form of the Approach of the Second Sun! But what is my mana value while I am in my deck?

I don’t think you have one.

Form of the Second Sun

New 27 Sep 2022 Asked by erfunk 111 Comments

If players are Planeswalkers by lore, and Form of the Approach of the Second Sun makes someone into a card, can we be interacted with by cards like Garth or Call the Gatewatch? Or if it's just flavor, then what do we taste like once we're a card?

The players are planeswalkers, so if you get made into a card by Form of the Approach of the Second Sun, you are a planeswalker card and can be interacted with as such. Note that if you leave the library or the library get shuffled, you stop being a card.Yes, many shenanigans can happen with Yet Another Aether Vortex (provided you find a way to not die to 0 loyalty).

Card-to-Player Transformation

About form of the approach of the second sun, are you still a player while you’re a card? Like you can still be attacked and such?

You’re still a player and can be attacked.

Un-Combo Excitement

New 26 Sep 2022 Asked by cannotwynn 43 Comments

Mark, you and your team gave given me the perfect Un-combo: I cast Form of the Approach of the Second Sun. I then cast Fractured Identity on it, so my opponent creates a copy of it. Then I cast Nerf War. I cannot wait to play with Unfinity!

Card Interpretation

New 26 Sep 2022 Asked by tetramarkus 42 Comments

For the new card from your article "Form of the Approach of the Second Sun", it references drawing yourself. If I play "D00-DL, Caricaturist" and draw myself on the token it makes, would that fulfill the win condition?

Wrong “draw”. Nice try though. : )

Gameplay Conduct

New 26 Sep 2022 Asked by deathworld12 32 Comments

when using the form of the approach of the second sun can the opponenet try to knock the deck of my head?

No. In none of the dexterity cards can my opponent physically mess with me. That’s unsporting conduct.
