Green's Slice in Forgotten Ancient

Is Forgotten Ancient still in Green's slice of the color pie?

Absolutely.

Green Bend Analysis

New 02 Sep 2017 Asked by forcemeat-ghost 32 Comments

Is Deeproot Champion even a bend? Green clearly gets the Forgotten Ancient/Managorger Hydra ability (whenever a player casts a spell, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature), as well weaker versions or subsets of that ability (like on Quirion Dryad).

It might not be a bend and a light bend even if it is.

Double-Strike Invention

New 19 Dec 2013 Asked by pineappley64 11 Comments

Who invented double-strike and was it a struggle to get it into the game, i.e. people thought it was too powerful etc.? Was it intended to be evergreen from the start? And... When do you think triple-strike will make it's debut :?

Double strike was actually invented by a player as a submitted mechanic for the first You Make The Card. It didn’t work in green so we couldn’t use it in Forgotten Ancient but I liked it and put it soon after in a set in first strike’s colors of white and red.

YMTC4 Color Poll Issue

New 25 Mar 2013 Asked by kallixti 6 Comments

I'm very disappointed at the YMtC4 process. Voting on color at this point is just going to be a "what's your favorite color" poll. It means that the best enchantment idea the community can think of has approximately an 80% chance of not even being considered due to not fitting in whatever color wins this poll.

This is how we did Forgotten Ancient and that turned out very well. You Make the Card is about the audience making choices and to do that we need to keep narrowing down the options. Doing it in reverse order just means less votes for the public. (You make mechanics and we tell you what color they are.)

The Johnny in me loves Crucible of Words, but Mr. Babycakes (Forgotten Ancient) will always have a warm place in my heart.

Forgotten Ancient Reprint?

New 03 Feb 2013 Asked by omegaplatinum 4 Comments

Oh great MaRo Magic 8-Ball! What are the chances of Mr. Babycakes aka Forgotten Ancient being reprinted in a Modern-Legal set?

I don’t know. I do like Mr. Babycakes (aka Forgotten Ancient).

Forgotten Ancient's Power

New 28 May 2012 Asked by frequency42 1 Comments

You said that the the players didn't choose the most powerful version of Forgotten Ancient. Are you referring to the card's mechanic? I remember the choices that were given, what do you think would have been a more powerful card?

The players opted for a more expensive cost with a bigger body to avoid being vulnerable to things like Shock. R&D believed the cheaper version was more powerful.

Card Name Impact

New 27 May 2012 Asked by sniffnoy 11 Comments

"Forgotten Ancient"? "Vanish into Memory"? No wonder anyone only remembers Crucible of Worlds! Obviously next time names like those should be stricken from the ballot.

Funny.   I’m glad the audience passed on Crucible of Amnesia.

Recallable Card Impact

New 27 May 2012 Asked by cathal21-blog 0 Comments

Have you considered that the reason Vanish into Memory was less recallable because people who weren't invested in it 7 years ago have no single wrapup thread to reflect on it?

Vanish Into Memory isn’t that recallable because it wasn’t all that interesting of a card. Forgotten Ancient was cool if a little on the weak side (the public didn’t choose the most powerful option) and Crucible of Worlds was a bonafide hit. 2 out of 3 is far better than most Magic designers. For those unaware, the above three cards were all made by public voting through something called “You Make The Card”.

You Make The Card

New 26 May 2012 Asked by therandomvillain 5 Comments

How about the "You make the card" coming back? Last i remember we made Crucible of Worlds, a pretty awesome card.

The last “You Make The Card” card was actually Vanish Into Memory which apparently has. (The first was Forgotten Ancient and the second Crucible of Worlds.)
