Finest Hour

Color Pie Break/Bend

Would Finest Hour be considered a color pie break/bend today?

I think white is secondary in extra combat steps, but we do the effect so infrequently that’s it’s tough for secondary to get many cards.

Reason for Fifth Edition Size

Why did fifth edition have so many cards?

We got enamored by the idea of seeing how big we could make it. Not our finest hour.

Remember “Finest Hour” is a white extra combat card that is also not Red

A fine point.

Skullclamp Development Story

Can you tell us the story about how skullclamp made it through r&d play testing?

It got changed from +1/+1 to +1/-1 late in the process. +1/+1 tested okay, so how could making it “worse” hurt? Not development’s finest hour. Design has had our share of screw-ups too. We just have development checking our work to catch things.

Finest Hour Creation

How did Finest Hour even happen? A non-red card that creates extra combat phases shouldn't exist

It’s something white can do on rare occasion.

Color Pie Query

New 17 Nov 2012 Asked by yeef 5 Comments

Color pie question: What's your opinion on Finest Hour? I think it's a great card, but the extra combat phase ability has always been red. It seems odd to have it in Green White Blue.

I agree that it’s very odd there’s no red in the card.
