Chromatic Lantern

Chromatic Lantern Placement

My question about Chromatic Lantern was more about why it wasn't put in the 5 color deck, which would need it more than the 3 color deck, instead.

I wasn’t involved in the making of the decks. My best guess was it was trying to match a certain flavor and it got put into the deck that best matched that flavor.

Why was Chromatic Lantern in a 3 color Warhammer deck, but not in the 5 color DMU precon? Seems like it would fit perfectly there.

We usually try to not put the same card in products near each other.

Buy-A-Box Marketing Strategy

If the goal of the buy-a-box promo is to increase booster sales why not make it an alternate art foil of another format’s staple? For example guilds of Ravnica could have dark confidant or chromatic lantern.

Because we want the focus to be on the set. “Buy this set for something that doesn’t have anything to do with this set” is bad marketing.

Commander 2016 Design Insight

"Each [Commander 2016] deck was created by a different designer." - Was this something made public before and people just missed it? With that known, a lot of the oft-mentioned asymmetries in the set suddenly make much more sense (asymmetrical rare duals, only one deck had chromatic lantern, one deck had nephilim, etc.)

In was in the design articles about it.
