Request to Re-implement Provoke

New 18 May 2021 Asked by gridnack 47 Comments

I like provoke more than fight. It allows for trample, first strike, double strike, boast, raid, counts as combat damage, etc., and it works great with multiple combat phases. It can also be stapled onto creatures as an ability which distracts a blocker. It also feels very green to happen in combat vs an instant speed option, which feels more like a kill spell with a drawback. So, may I please request provoke return and fight be retired? Also, if creatures can directly attack planeswalkers, can we either tweak it or get a new ability that can attack a specific creature, without untapping it? I want to attack and avatar of woe with first strike, instant of trading from fight or untapping it only to retap.

I have some bad news for you. We’re pretty happy with how fight is working out.

Hi Mark, It's already my birthday on the part of the planet where I live, so it's (partially?) time for my birthday question. This time about one of the cards from my childhood that left most impression on me back then and is still very impressive today - Avatar of Woe.

The Avatar and Winds cycles were created and added to Prophecy by Bill Rise and myself to beef up Prophecy design before the handoff to development. Happy Birthday!

Maro, Avatar of Woe and Hedron Matrix is a hell of a thing. Please distribute High-Fives, if the current monarch allows it.

Will do.

Its my birthday! :D Can I maybe get some trivia on Spirit of the Night? Or maybe Avatar of Woe?

Spirit of the Night was going to be Spirit of the Nightstalker but the name wouldn’t fit so it was shortened. Happy Birthday!

Why did you pick Visara for your tales from the pit over Avatar of Woe? Avatar of Woe is so much cooler!

Visara sounded better for the joke.
