Streamlining Library Mechanics

New 02 Mar 2023 Asked by attracte 55 Comments

Hey Mark, have y'all talked about shortening the mechanic for looking at the top X cards of your library, picking one of a certain quality and revealing it and putting it into your hand, and then putting the rest on the bottom or graveyard? There are around 4 every set and there could be plenty of room to save.E.g. Ancient Stirrings could be "Research 4 for a colourless card" and Forbidden Alchemy could be "Research 4 for any card and the rest go to your graveyard."

It is a topic that gets discussed from time to time.

Artifacts Philosophy

Would you consider Ancient Stirrings a break since it allows green to draw an artifact, which is “unnatural” and against its philosophy?

Not all artifacts are unnatural. Artifacts, in Magic, are items, but not necessary magical items. A rock, for example, can be an artifact.

Card Ordering Mechanics

Putting cards on the bottom of your library in a random order is tedious in real life and gets players in trouble. (similar to the ajani’s pridemate problem). why don’t cards like ancient stirrings and the new Narset say “random order” online and “any order” in paper? or does online convenience take precedent over paper in development now?

The point of random order is to prevent players from spending time figuring out what order to put the cards when it seldom ever matters.

Devoid Cards Query

Will cards like Ancient Stirrings be able to give you cards with Devoid?

Yes, devoid cards are colorless in every zone.

Innistrad versus Lovecraft

New 21 Sep 2011 Asked by eronarn 2 Comments

The Eldrazi were a major nod to Lovecraftian horror conceptually, but within the set they mostly existed as a 'boss' (though there were some exceptions like Ancient Stirrings and See Beyond). Will Innistrad draw on the more subtle side of HPL?

Innistrad purposefully tried to stay away from Lovecraft because of its influence on the Eldrazi. It’s hard to stay completely away in a horror setting but we purposefully tried.
