Tree of Redemption

Timmy, Power Gamer Plans

New 03 Oct 2022 Asked by kitsovereign 19 Comments

Was Timmy, Power Gamer ever planned to be in Masters 25? I remember people theorized that Tree of Redemption was a late swap that kept the collector number, and then Timmy had fresh art ready for Unsanctioned.

I don’t believe that was ever part of the plan, at least to my knowledge. Note that I didn’t work on that product, but people tend to tell me when it involves Un-cards.

Original Innistrad References

FYI, there was actually 5 references to "13" in original Innistrad; you forgot Tree of Redemption (a 0/13 creature).

You are correct, I did. Oops.

Can you PLEASE tell us what card Tree of Redemption replaced?

I don’t know. I wasn’t on the team. I just heard it was a last minute replacement.

Tree of Redemption Story

Is Tree of Redemption in A25 because of its tie with Triskodeko and/or vice versa? As a player who genuinely loves both of those cards I feel A25 would have been better served choosing other cards from the best plane of all time (Innistrad!).

The representative card from Innistrad in Masters 25 is Triskaidekaphobia. Once again, Tree of Redemption was a last minute replacement.

Tree of Redemption Choice

Could you share with us the thought process behind putting tree of redemption in Masters 25. It was a controversial choice to say the least and could definitely lead to an interesting conversation if you choose to talk about it.

It was a last minute replacement with numerous constraints.

Killer Card Combination

New 10 Jul 2016 Asked by danvogelsong 60 Comments

I love the two-card killer of triskaidekaphobia and Tree of Perdition. Were those independently designed (because one is a mirror of Tree of Redemption), or was it designed as an almost two-card death knell?

They were independently designed.

Tree of Redemption Sentience

Does "Tree of Redemption" have sentience?

Plants and walls are the two creature types that might not have sentience. And some of each clearly do.

Tree of Redemption Type

I'm sure this question but why did you guys make Tree of Redemption a Plant and not push for Treefolk?

Because it was a tree and not a treefolk.

Tree of Redemption

At any point in design, was Tree of Redemption a Treefolk? If so, why was it not printed as such?

No, it was never considered to be a treefolk. Why?  To paraphrase Sigmund Freud, “Sometimes a tree is just a tree.”
