Golgari Card Advantage

New 02 Jan 2020 Asked by crowsncardinals 46 Comments

Happy new year, MaRo! I just played a couple Standard tournaments over the past week and was shocked at how easily could Golgari (BG) decks generated card advantage. Is it normal for these two colors to be that good at continous card draw? (Edgewall inkeeper, Trail of Crumbs, The Great Henge, Liliana from WAR, Castle Lochtwain, Moldervine Reclamation, Midnight Reaper are all nuts)

Black and green are two and three at card draw, behind blue. That said, yeah, we could probably pull back a little, especially in green.

Trail of Crumbs Query

Since Trail of Crumbs is card advantage in green that isn't reliant on creatures, would you consider it a bend/break?

Green can Impulse (look at top N cards of a library) for a permanent - although usually it’s creature or land. It’s the repeatable ability of it that makes it a bend. White could possibly, as a bend, have a repeatable effect that lets it Impulse for a creature with CMC 2 or less (something it can Impulse for).
