The Great Henge

Concerns about Modern Design

Hey Mark, I want to share my thoughts on modern Magic design. First, I want to say that I am excited for each new set that comes out. I get hyped every time. But I do want to stress out some of the problems I have. Specifically, cards that do everything. Cards like Dauthi Voidwalker or The Great Henge make me miss the time where cards did their thing and that's it, without being objectively useful for so many decks. Commander got hurt the most by this, with a significant diversity drop.

Here’s an important thing to remember if your primary goal is having fun - you don’t have to maximally optimize your deck. Play cards that are more fun to play over ones that decrease variance and help you win 2% more.

Golgari Card Advantage

Happy new year, MaRo! I just played a couple Standard tournaments over the past week and was shocked at how easily could Golgari (BG) decks generated card advantage. Is it normal for these two colors to be that good at continous card draw? (Edgewall inkeeper, Trail of Crumbs, The Great Henge, Liliana from WAR, Castle Lochtwain, Moldervine Reclamation, Midnight Reaper are all nuts)

Black and green are two and three at card draw, behind blue. That said, yeah, we could probably pull back a little, especially in green.

Arthurian Legends in Magic

Hey Mark, so the Circle of Loyalty is I assume Arthur's Round Table, the Magic Mirror is the Magic Mirror, the Cauldron of Eternity is the Holy Grail, Embercleave is Excalibur, but what's the Great Henge? Stonehenge doesn't make much sense to me but it's the only thing I can think of

It’s Stone Henge. It plays a small role in some old Arthurian tales and is implied to have magical properties.
