Inconsistencies in Sea Monster Typing

New 19 Jun 2024 Asked by magnadrake 5 Comments

On the topic of Sea Monsters, there are some 'sea-monster-like' cards that doesnt have the related types, and some cards with the related types, but have art that maybe doesn't fit the types. Example: Stormtide Leviathan is, as far as I can observe the art, a giant fish, but it has the name and type of Leviathan. Conversely, Fleet Swallower, is also a giant fish, big enough to rival Leviathans, but still just a Fish. Why is this the case?

Because we make a lot of cards and there are only so many constraints we can pay attention to.

Trivia on Stormtide and Talrand

It was my birthday two days ago. Can I ask for some trivia about either Stormtide Leviathan or Talrand Sky Summoner, my first two rare cards?

Magic 2013 made a cycle of monocolor legendary creatures. Each was designed to illustrate a strength of that color. Blue’s legendary creature demonstrated that blue is #1 at spells.Happy Belated Birthday!

Whales as Blue Iconics

New 04 Jul 2013 Asked by generalbeardpirate 20 Comments

What about whales for the iconic blue creature? I know one of the big "whales" that people remember, Stormtide Leviathan, was just that, a leviathan, but it really looked and felt like a whale, and Colossal Whale is just gorgeous, I love it in terms of flavor and what it does. I don't know if whales have a large enough set of things they can be reasonably made to do in terms of design, but what are your thoughts on this?

Blue is all about knowledge so its iconic can’t be big and dumb.
