Seedtime

Extra Turn Spell

New 10 Dec 2022 Asked by j-waffles 59 Comments

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. White is the only mono-color to not have an extra turn spell, and I think it should get one. Especially when Seedtime (the only mono-green extra turn spell) is more in white’s part of the color pie than green’s. I know that extra turns are a powerful effect that you try to do in moderation, but I would still really like to request a mono-white extra turn spell. And just to be clear, I’m not asking for “time warp but white”, I still want to follow the color pie.

Box checking is a bad reason to push abilities into new colors.

Green and Black Turn Spells

New 11 Aug 2021 Asked by randomsimpevent 40 Comments

Hi Mark! In regards to the person that asked about white, black, and green getting extra turn spells, green and black actually both have one. Green has a card called Seedtime from Judgement, and Black has Temporal Extortion from Planar chaos. These are both conditional though. I suppose they would be color pie breaks today?

Both, at best, are severe bends. Seedtime is probably just a break.

Seedtime Discussion

You said a while ago that Seedtime is a break. What weakness of green does it undercut? The weakness of not being able to get extra turns?

Early Magic did this things where colors occasionally did something their opponent normally did (but they didn’t) when fighting against it. We don’t do that anymore. Every color has its own strategy for winning. It has the tools of the things it does and doesn’t get the tools of the things it doesn’t. Adding extra turns to green fundamentally changes how it’s creature strategy works. That’s why it can’t just randomly get a Time Walk effect.

Seedtime Color Pie Break

Is Seedtime a color pie break? Even if it is, I can really "feel" the flavor if you know what I mean. It's one of my favorite cards :)

It is a color pie break. Sorry.

Future Color Hate

You say that everything in magic ebbs and flows which is one of the best parts of the game. Knowing that will we ever see more soft hate for colors? Of course not on the level of Boil but closer to Slay or Seedtime.

Soft hate? Maro Magic 8-Ball says: “Probably.”
