Roc of Kher Ridges

Reserved List Confusions

Hi, considering what you posted on the "Fork ./. Reverberate" issue (your post id 173202717833 of Apr 22, 2018) how did the "Roc of Kher Ridges ./. Moonveil Regent" happen? I know it's not identical, but even strictly better (a better flyer than a 3/3 for 3R mana without negative effects, like e.g. on Flailing Manticore). In the "spirit of the RL" that should have been caught prior to releasing the Moonveil Regent, right? Cheers.

The Reserved List doesn’t mean we can’t make better cards than cards on the Reserved List. The Fork/Reverberate is about making an almost identical card.

Rarity vs. Power

"Rarity isn’t really about power." Your words. My response: Baneslayer Angel. Rarity has been more and more about power since the day Mythic Rare was invented.

I think you need to take a look at Alpha. Common - Grey Ogre 2R 2/2 Uncommon - Uthden Troll 2R 2/2 R: Regenerate Rare - Sedge Troll 2R 2/2 +1/+1 if you control a swamp, B: Regenerate Common - Hill Giant 3R 3/3 Uncommon - Roc of Kher Ridges 3R 3/3 Flying Common - Mons’s Goblin Raiders R 1/1 Uncommon - Goblin Baloon Brigade R 1/1 R: Gains flying The reality is that we’ve gotten a lot better over the years of not defining power by rarity. Yes, there are exceptions but you won’t see a modern set that has four strictly betters based on rarity in one color like I listed above.

Reserved List Rationale

I get the reserved list, but why oh why are cards like Roc of Kher Ridges and Farmstead on it? I don't think any collector is going to be angry if you reprinted those.

The Reserved List is mostly based on what was rare from early Magic sets. Roc of Kher Ridges and Farmstead are on the list because they were rare cards from Alpha.
