Remand

Taxing Counterspells

I heard that you guys phased out taxing counters from whites pie in favor of just remand effects, is that actually true?

That is not true. White, color pie wise, still has access to taxing counterspells. I’m not sure play design wants to make them though.

Blue Color Concerns

I’m concerned with the continued direction of blue. Remand is now white. All colors now have access to what was once blue’s strength, great card draw. Blue’s creatures are still the worst overall. Only new thing blue has gotten lately is vigilance which isn’t that strong. I don’t see much incentive to run blue as a base color in my decks anymore when other colors are doing the same things and have better creatures and removal. What is the reason for all of this?

One Remand does not make white better than blue at counterspells. It’s also the best at stealing things, and bounce, and mill, among other things.

White's Remand Adaptation

Reprieve was just spoiled from the upcoming Lord of the Rings set. Is Remand in white’s slice of the pie now?

It’s been in white’s pie for a long time (as longtime readers of this blog know). Play design/set design just finally decided to make one. : )

White's Power Balance with Blue

I think the only problem with White counterspells is that the counterspells white could get, blue keeps getting instead. I would think it's more fun, and would help balance the power/annoyance of counterspells overall if blue taxing/delaying counterspells would stop, and instead move those to white. Besides, I think things like a white Remand would help white in commander.

White being able to do them doesn’t remove them from blue.
