Neverwinter Hydra

Similarities between Hydra Cards

An interesting thing I noticed today: Hydradoodle from Unstable and Neverwinter Hydra from AFR are almost the exact same card (Neverwinter just has Ward 4 instead of reach). I thought it was an interesting example at how the rules have changed over time to allow cards that are silver-border work within the rules now.

Krark's Thumb and Pixie Guide Interaction

Hey Mark, unrules interaction question. If I conbtrol both Krark's Other Thumb and Pixie Guide, and then cast Hydradoodle or Neverwinter Hydra for 3GG, do I roll three instances of 2d6 (ignoring the lowest roll each time) and then roll another 2d6 ignoring the lowest roll for pixie guide, or would I roll three instances of 3d6 and ignore the lowest two dice for each instance?

First, I’ll assume you mean you paid the right amount of mana to roll three dice (6GG not 3GG). Here’s what happens. Instead of rolling three dice, you roll four because of Pixie Guide. Then you’re going to roll one die at a time, but for each of those four rolls, you roll an additional die along with it because of Krark’s Other Thumb. For each of your four die rolling actions, you’ll pick one of the two dice to count as your roll. Once you have four chosen results, you then pick three of those to count for the Hydra roll. Here it is spelled out:Roll #1 - roll two dice and pick a result.Roll #2 - roll two dice and pick a result.Roll #3 - roll two dice and pick a result.Roll #4 - roll two dice and pick a result.Than chose three dice from the four rolls. Those three die rolls are for the Hydra.

Appreciating Silver-bordered Hydras

I know they're not exactly the same, but since Neverwinter Hydra is really close to Hydradoodle, allow me to still congratulate you for getting another silver-bordered card into black border!

Un-sets are us experimenting in new space, some of which eventually finds its way into black border.
