Mox Diamond

Inconsistency in Errata Philosophy

New 29 May 2022 Asked by jjarnone-blog 42 Comments

When the rules were updated it was decided that Mox Diamond should follow the intended function and was errated to not even enter the battlefield if a land was not discarded. But when the rules were updated it was decided that cunning wish should not be able to get cards that were exiled despite that being the original intention of the card. Why was there a difference in the errata philosophy here?

Cunning Wish getting exiled cards was *not* the original intent of the card. And this from part of the team that made them. That got added later. I tried to stop it (and failed).

Functional Reserve List Reprint

How big does the difference need to be for a card to not be considered a functional reserve list reprint? Like for example, could you do Mox Diamond, but legendary? Or Lake of the Dead, but you sacrifice two swamps instead of one?

It’s a feel thing. You don’t have to change a lot.

Reserved List Loophole

4 cards from FTV: Relics were on the Reserved List, including Karn, Masticore, Memory Jar and Mox Diamond. Doesn't this violate the terms of the reserved list? And how come this only happened in FTV: Relics?

We were experimenting with pushing a loophole. It went badly and we promised to never do it again.
