Enormous Baloth

Common Rarity Power

How did we go from Duskdale Wurm (or, for that matter, Enormous Baloth one year earlier) at uncommon, to Eldrazi Devastator at common? Does Eldrazi Devastator mean that contemporary Magic could have a Green 7/7 or 8/8 creature with trample, with CMC less than its P/T, at common? Or is 8 mana just that much harder to pay than 7 mana (meaning that Eldrazi Devastator is okay, but a common 7/7 with trample for 7 colorless mana would not be)?

We push size a bit down in rarity for Eldrazi as we push artifacts a bit down in rarity for Mirrodin blocks. Sometimes to focus on something you have to push its as-fan a little bit.
