Disharmony

Discord's Copy Ability

New 06 Apr 2024 Asked by apocalypticfluffy 21 Comments

Good morning, Mark.I'd like to ask for a ruling for Discord, Lord of Disharmony. The copy effect at the end of the ability mean every time you cast something with Discord you get to see another random card, right? Because I have seen multiple people assume (I hope mistakenly) that it means every time you cast something Discord gains another instance of the ability so it would trigger multiple times at your end step.

No, getting a new random card only happens at the beginning of your end step trigger, so only once per turn.

Discord EDH Rules

Hi Mark! Lets say I'm playing Discord, Lord of Disharmony in edh, and I pull a random card that is already in my deck, what's your ruling as the silver-bordered rules manager: Should I re-roll to respect the rules of edh (only one card of each per deck), or should I keep (Discord lives in silver bordered land and can do what he wants!). Thanks!

I think the singleton rules are merely a deckbuilding thing, and Discord doesn’t involve that. I say keep the duplicate.

Praise for Discord Card

Mark, I don't know if anyone has asked you yet, but can you please apply high fives to everyone involved in the creation of Discord, Lord of Disharmony? Just an amazingly cool card!

Will do.

Card Randomizer Advice

Is there a resource available to make Discord, Lord of Disharmony work? It's hard to know what is and what isn't considered a magic card, and how unique it has to be to count as a separate entry (since I assume that each card should have the same odds).

Gatherer (at least on desktop) and Scryfall both have a random button.

Red Steal Mechanics

We've had plenty of variants on Threaten/Act of Treason, but Disharmony variants are nowhere to be seen (I know Disharmony itself is stuck on the Reserved List). Is there a particular reason for this? Stealing an attacker to use as a blocker seems to fit red just as thematically as the reverse.

We specifically want red to use stealing aggressively and not defensively. It’s the least defensive of the five colors.
